Welcome
2010 State of the Stage Address
Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages…welcome, welcome, welcome to The Lake Country Players 2010-11 performance year! As President of your community theater I would like to personally welcome you all to a very exciting, very challenging year. I hope you find the synopsis in this email informative.
“It’s been a long day at work…you arrive home to a stuffed mailbox….you carelessly sift through the stack as you sit in your favorite chair…you freeze…there it is…nestled between the dreaded cell phone bill and GoodHouse Keeping….there’s nowhere to run, nowhere to hide…you have just received a ….Jury summons! While most people dread this envelope I believe there are at least 12 of our beloved members who just may welcome it with open arms. Are they crazy you ask…no they are the cast of 12 Angry Jurors!” I recently had the great pleasure of sitting in on a rehearsal and am truly impressed. I have never seen the show, had no knowledge of it, and these folks sucked me in! I have even heard some members want rehearsals to go on forever because they are having so much fun. Even Prime Time is on board with us as in a recent “The Good Wife” episode they played off 12 Angry Jurors! Don’t miss it - April 16-18.
“The year is 1933; the United States is in the midst of The Great Depression. People have lost their jobs, their homes; their confidence…the government is in change….times are uncertain.” (Did I say 2010??) Welcome to the era of Annie Jr. LCP’s Junior Players (ages 5-13) will be performing Annie Jr July 9th, 10th, and 11th. Sure to tickle the funny bone, bring back feelings of childhood, and have you singing & dancing about “Tomorrow”. Auditions are April 27th & 28th.
They’re not kids anymore, they are sitting on the verge of adulthood – they are LCP’s The Understudies! These very talented, very driven members produce & perform their own style of show under the guidance of adult LCP members. Show will be in August – more information to come!
“Arrrr you ready for a swashbuckling good time?” Pirates of Penzance is coming to LCP this Fall 2010! Under the directorship of Jane Daum, who has a passionate love for this show, you will be in awe with the characters, the costumes, the sets! Before you know it you will be sounding like a pirate. Move over Johnny Depp, it’s LCP’s time to shine with our own pirates!
Show your LCP Pride with new, first time ever LCP apparel! We always order show specific shirts and now we have general membership shirts. Check out our website for pictures and ordering information. Sale starts April 15 and ends May 15, orders will be delivered in June.
There is no “I” in The Lake Country Players but there is a “u”. You are what makes LCP, we can’t survive without you. What does it mean to be a member of LCP? There are as many answers as there are members. I feel LCP is what “you” make of it, there is no set “mold” on a member. Most people see being a member as being an actor – that is not the case. We need to promote the family of Community Theater as a whole and not just one piece. Maybe you never want to step on stage as an actor but would love to help build sets, sew costumes, make props, …the list can go on and on. Maybe you are a wiz at graphic arts….would you like to create our Playbills? And going beyond the top layer of being a member there is the input on where we are going and what we are doing. Is there a show you have always wanted to do? Community Theater is decided by its members, we are the voice, we are the power, WE are Community Theater! This is the place to share your ideas, work together to see them come true, and celebrate in the success. I encourage everyone to attend our monthly meetings – I would love the challenge to find a larger room because of attendance! Sit in at least once a Quarter, listen, observe, be part of it- whatever “YOU” want.
“Office Hours” – any good manager/CEO/President knows they are there because of everyone in the organization and not the other way around. With this I want to fully extend myself to all of you. I want to hear your ideas, concerns, questions – all of it. You can contact me via email at any time (tlg36@cornell.edu) or call (227-6823), I am even going to go one step further and do “Office Hours”. I will make myself available at The Savoy building for people to stop in at least once a Quarter. “Office Hours” do not have to be about specific business or a topic, you can just stop in to say hi. The first “Office Hours” will be on Thursday, May 20 from 7pm-8:30pm.
And now…on with the show!
